One of the weaknesses of standard QA Automation Methodologies is the up front time and effort required before being able to write a line of automation code. Most Automation Consultants believe they must spend months learning the product before they can get started. They may not care how long it takes if they are billing on a time and material model.
The qaSignature Test Automation Methodology supports live test automation within the first 2 weeks of the project. There is no need to spend weeks or months learning the software application.
"We had other consultants that chewed off their limbs looking for specs, looking for test plans. qaSignature focuses on the main highway through the product, the main process. They actually had a regression test on day 2. They're fast."
Steve Bramley, Manager, Software Quality, Symantec
We recommend starting with the main highway through the product - the critical path. Since we are not experts on your product, we ask for either a test script or a movie. There are various options available for recording this sequence. We often use a product called Camtasia for recording. Once the critical path is captured, we're off and running.
Automating software quality assurance testing provides significant benefits. The questions you are probably asking are: How much does it cost? How long will it take to start receiving benefits? One way to answer is to cite the savings and ROI of actual clients. The average client realizes over $500,000 in tangible savings annually with an ROI of 100% to 1000%. Most clients receive a pay back in the first 3 - 4 months.
Actual savings will vary based on your situation. For example, you may not have an adequate level of test resources to begin with. You may use resources from other parts of the organization for full blown tests. Eliminating the need for these additional resources may not provide savings that are easily quantifiable. If these same resources were brought in as subcontractors, eliminating this requirement would provide direct savings.
Don't forget the intangibles like reduced time to market, improvements in development productivity, or reduced bugs introduced to the field. These are areas where huge savings are recognized but are more difficult to measure.
If you are interested, you can download our ROI Calculator at www.qasignature.com/resources/ and calculate the savings for yourself.
Building Quality Assurance Test Automation is clearly a good decision if cutting costs, and compressing the development cycle (while improving product quality) is a priority in your organization.
