Product:

ON iCommand - Centralized SW and Configuration Management tool - "a single unified Web-based solution for managing multi-platform environments over any type of network, including wired and wireless LANs, cellular wireless, and broadband Internet connections. It also enables remote management of critical functions on managed devices such as: unattended bare metal provisioning, OS deployment, ongoing application and security updates, one-click disaster recovery, and de-provisioning. ON iCommand's Java-based agent and server technology facilitates the management of a wide range of devices including: desktops, mobile devices and servers, as well as next generation devices such as intelligent cell phones, embedded vehicle systems, and consumer set-top boxes."

Challenge:

They have a very complex distributed system that installs software over the internet. Validation and monitoring is required on all the systems. They couldn’t hire full time people. They had no way to build repeatability with the existing staff. They had to look outside for resources.

Concerns:

They had used qaSignature at a previous employer so they had no concerns.

qaSignature Solution:

  • Developed the following tests:
    • Installation
    • Smoke
    • Functional Regression with 24x7 automated test runs
  • Customized Reporting and Resource Monitoring
  • Prior to automation effort, pre-set alone used to take 4 days, and testing (manual) – 3 weeks per build. At the completion of the project, on release day tested 2 builds in 8 hours. Testing these builds manually would have taken 6 weeks.
  • Shipped Enterprise Manager product on time.
