Case Study

"The collaboration between the Ardais software development team and qaSignature brought immediate tangible results that quadrupled development team productivity, an accomplishment for which Ardais received a CIO 100 Award in 2003. Our investment made in automation and the ability to test applications overnight with virtually no manpower will translate into $1,000,000 savings in the next 12 months."

Martin Ferguson, Ardais' Senior Vice President of Bioinformatics

Company:

Clinical genomic company engaged in biomedical research, and maintaining a repository of tissue samples.

Product:

BIGR Application suite - BIGR (Biomaterials and Information for Genomic Research) is a solution, designed to support the tissue- banking process. It allows for the storing, tracking and retrieval of critical information about a sample to include medical history and demographics of a patient.

BIGR employs: Oracle Relational Database (back-end), JSP/Java /XML (front-end), J2EE Beans (middle tier) and IBM Web Sphere (web server/App server).

Challenge:

Ardais is a venture-funded company. They have developed this sophisticated proprietary product as a competitive differentiator in their marketplace. With a goal of keeping development costs to a minimum, they elected to develop an automated testing strategy. They hired other firms to develop automation unsuccessfully causing them to waste over a year and thousands of dollars with no results. This is when they called on qaSignature.

Concerns:

The budget was an immediate concern. They were not convinced that the project would produce the benefits being proposed.

qaSignature Solution:

  • qaSignature developed and built the Test Infrastructure, Testware, Reporting, and a 24-hour full regression test suite that eliminated the need for manual testing. The manual testing was taking 3 weeks for 5 QA Engineers.
  • Development team productivity increased by more than 600%.
  • qaSignature has been working with Ardais for over 3 years and currently is involved in new development and ongoing maintenance.
  • The success of the project influenced their decision to package the product for general release.
