Do Not Forget To Water Your Flowers!
My wife, Julia, fired me today! That is right; I have been officially fired as office gardener. Being a family-owned business without big venture capital in the bank, we all wear several hats. Taking trash out is my other big responsibility! I did forget to water the flowers in the office! (And not the first time :).
This incident got me thinking about automating the process. I am sure that I don’t have to work very hard to convince you that having an automatic sprinkler system that waters your garden nicely and evenly every night is much preferred over using a garden hose. The biggest advantage of such a system is the ability to program the timer and have it go on and off automatically every night. The result is, you don’t have the headache that I do!
Allow me to draw a parallel here with the software development process. Each time we meet with new software development organizations in Boston, one of the most frequently asked question is why we need to run a full regression test nightly? Can you make this giant leap from your lawn sprinkler system and quality of your lawn to the absolute necessity of full automation nightly regression and the quality of the software that your organization puts to the market? Test it religiously, and your application will grow healthy and bring you lots of green!
And now you have to excuse me, as I've got to water those flowers! Hopefully Julia will let me have my job back!
Enjoy your weekend and summer while it is here!
